Showing the Way
Karen has been matched with her Little Sister, Savanah, since October 23, 2015. Karen has managed to make going to the grocery store and shopping for new school clothes things that Savannah not only enjoys but things she looks forward to. Karen has done a wide variety of activities with Savannah from cooking, doing crafts, window shopping at the mall, and visiting Bass Pro. She has taught Savannah at the age of 10 how to make a budget and the importance of education. Their Match Support Specialist recently talked to Savannah, and she said that she wants to go to college one day because of Karen!
When children and teens have the influence of a caring adult, they are more likely to avoid risky behaviors and to focus on academics. Today's youth face a variety of challenges, and being matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister can help them navigate these challenges and reach their potential.
For over 33 years, we’ve been able to recruit, screen, match, and support mentoring friendships that have changed the lives of thousands of young people across the Ozarks.
A study for Big Brothers Big Sisters found that kids matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister:
are more confident.
are more likely to steer clear of drugs and alcohol.
do better in school.
get along better with their family and friends.
feel better about themselves.
