Be Big University
“Be Big University” will consist of revamped training materials from the Big Brothers Big Sisters national office, and 2 training sessions per month, lasting approximately one hour. One session will always focus on orienting new volunteers on how to be a successful Big, and the other will focus on specific topics and issues that Bigs commonly face. Bigs will also receive a certificate and t-shirt upon completion of the required training sessions. The BKD Foundation awarded $9,830 to create the new training program for volunteers. The BKD Foundation’s mission is to enrich the communities BKD serves through financial support and volunteerism. When possible, the foundation supports local charitable organizations in which personnel are involved. The BKD Foundation made its first charitable gift in February 2000, and since has distributed more than $6.2 million to qualifying 501(c)(3) charitable organizations. A huge thank you goes out to the BKD Foundation for making this new training program possible. Senior Case Manager, Janice Frederic, says, “We couldn’t be happier to receive funding to carry out a new training process for our volunteers. This is a step in the right direction in educating our Bigs and making them stronger volunteers.”
